Essential Utility Trailer Upgrades
The right upgrades can make a big difference with your utility trailer experience. Aftermarket accessories can make towing trips easier and safer, but it can be hard to know which items to get. We've gathered up the following must-have utility trailer upgrades. If you have questions or want to shop utility trailers for sale in Utah, visit Mountain West Trailers. Trailer Hitch Light
Lights are a common utility trailer upgrade, but a trailer hitch light is a commonly overlooked option. It's unfortunate because a trailer hitch light is a valuable aftermarket accessory! This light provides valuable improved visibility when loading and unloading the trailer as well as hitching and unhitching the trailer.
Simply mount the backing plate in the ideal position. The trailer hitch light is magnetic, making it easy to connect when you need it and store when you do not.
Improved Fragile Item Storage
There are some items that can be a hassle to transport in a trailer. These long and fragile items, such as a pipe or drywall corner beads, can be awkward to load into a trailer. They usually need to be secured in a group and then secured to the trailer. A better solution? A simple DIY storage approach.
You will need:
- A large PVC pipe, such as a 10 foot long pipe that is 4 inches wide.
- An end cap.
- A cleanout adapter.
- PVC cleaner and adhesive.
- 4 J-hooks.
Start by priming and gluing the end cap and cleanout adapter. Then, mount the PVC pipe to the side of your trailer. Secure the J-hooks and connect the tube into place. When you want to transport those difficult items, slide them into the secure PVC pipe for easy storage!
Improved Tool Storage
If you transport landscaping tools, such as rakes and shovels, PVC pipe again comes to the rescue. Cut 36-inch lengths of PVC pipe, glue on an end cap (be sure to first drill a hole in the cap for drainage), and attach the pipe. This allows for vertical storage of landscaping tools inside the PVC pipe, which frees up valuable space inside the trailer.
Ramps
Sure, you may be strong enough to lift heavy cargo into the trailer. But that's an unnecessary exertion when you can instead walk up a ramp.
It's easy to install a ramp, especially with the abundance of ramp kits online. You'll be able to quickly connect the ramp, load your items and vehicles, then quickly disconnect the ramps. If you want the rams at the destination, load it onto the trailer and bring it along.
