Trailers are incredibly durable and long-lasting pieces of equipment! While they require very little maintenance, you still need to stay on top of your model’s general care and upkeep. For tips on how to maintain your trailer from month to month, we’ve written up the helpful article below.

Regular Inspections

The best way to ensure your trailer is always running in tip-top shape is to inspect it regularly!

Giving your trailer a quick once-over before each trip will help you catch small issues in advance, and help you avoid a large repair bill in the future. We also advise giving your equipment a more thorough inspection every one to three months, just to ensure all of your trailer’s parts are getting the necessary care.

Check Tires

To make sure your trailer’s tires are road ready, you’ll want to quickly check the tread and air pressure of each wheel. The tread should be worn evenly across each tire. If you notice inconsistencies in the tread it’s a sign your tires may need to be realigned. If the tread is extremely bare and the tires are beginning to look bald, you’ll need to replace them sooner rather than later.

If the air pressure in one of your tires is extremely low, it may be a sign that you have a leak. Listen for the sound of escaping air and check that there are no sharp objects stuck in the rubber. You may also want to grab a spray bottle and fill it with a mix of soap and water. If you spray the mixture on the tire and no bubbles appear, it’s unlikely your tire has a leak, and you can simply reinflate it with an air pump.

Clean the Deck

When inspecting and maintaining trailers, many owners often forget to consider their decks. However, if your deck develops rot or rust to an extreme degree, there’s very little you can do to save your equipment. Therefore, it’s incredibly important that you wash your deck regularly to keep it in optimal condition. Usually, a quick sweep and spray with the hose will suffice, but you may need to bust out your cleanser every 6 months or so.
