Your Guide to Washing a Dump Trailer
While washing a dump trailer may seem a bit intimidating at first, it’s actually a fairly easy process! With the right tools in hand, washing even the largest trailer can take as little as 30 minutes to an hour. For step-by-step instructions on how to clean your dump trailer, as well as a list of helpful tools and products you’ll need, be sure to read our handy guide below.
Tools
The tools you’ll need to clean your dump trailer may vary depending on how dirty it is. If the layers of filth and grime on your trailer are bordering on extreme, we advise purchasing a gentle acid, such as hydrofluoric acid, to help remove oxidation and stuck-on grime. A wax designed for metal surfaces is also a must-have if you’re planning to apply acid to your dump trailer. For a less intense cleaning, you’ll only need a broom, automotive soap, and a long-handled brush. However, if possible, we strongly advise trying to get your hands on a pressure washer to rinse your equipment, as it will make the job much easier.
Cleaning
Once you’ve got everything you need, you can go ahead and grab your broom and begin sweeping out the bed of your trailer. Don’t worry about getting all of the dirt, dust, and sand out of there, as you’ll be rinsing your equipment shortly after. Instead, focus on removing any large materials and trash before hosing down the entirety of your trailer. Once it’s good and wet, you’re free to begin applying your acid before following it up with your automotive cleaner and scrub brush. Once you’ve scrubbed the inside and outside of your dump trailer, you can once again rinse your machinery and allow it to dry in the sun. If you used a hydrofluoric acid, remember to apply a wax coating once your trailer is dried.
